Ace Speedway Season Opener Rained Out

ALTAMAHAW, NC -- For the second week in a row the racing activities at Ace Speedway fell victim to heavy rain as the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series season opener at the 4/10th of a mile asphalt oval was rained out.

The pits were filled with race cars in the tracks five divisions before another round of torrential rain that has plagued the South forced officials to postpone the season opener to next Friday night, April 15th.

Topping the list of the 6 division race card next Friday night will be the David Westcott Pontiac Buick Late Model Stock Cars who will compete in a big 50-lap race. Former track Champions Todd Massey and Robert Turner along with Rodney Cook, Gary Causey, Dean Fogleman, Ronnie Clifton, Jerry Holyfield Jr., Richard Bailey, Jimmy Rice, Terry Smith, Keith Perry, Dod Loftis, Tracey Chambers, Coy Hedrick, and rookies Scotty Warren and Brad Coleman lead a strong field of cars in the division.

The Brogden Cars & Limos Modifieds will be featured in a 30 lap race as defending track champion Bill "the Professor" Wilder can expect a strong challenge from the likes of Jerry Scott, Roy Cook, Mike Bledsole, Brad Allen, Steve and Jackie Paschal, Gary Young Jr., Larry Cook, Gene and Barry Moize, Barry Garner, nd the return of former track champion Brian "the Bullet" King. Former Mini Stock Champion Donnie West and Bob Kitchell head up the list of modified rookies.

The Dick Shirley Chevrolet Super Stocks will also be racing next Friday as Mike Gerringer, Don Cook, Jesse Ingle III, Tony Smith, Brad Queen, Jerry King, Greg Barts Brent Coleman top the returning veterans with newcomers Dustin Rumley and Ricky Bryant also expected to do well.

Defending Champion Tommy Horner will lead the Chick-fil-A Mini Stocks in action next week with P-Nut and Mike Vernon, Larry Emory, Chad Sykes, Mark Wilburn, Kevin Anderson, Bradley Hayes Lee Johnson, and others expected to challenge for the title. Josh Waldron and Travis Coleman lead the Mini Stock rookie list.

Also seeing action next Friday night will be the wild Extreme Cars and the Virginia Old Timers "Southern Ground Pounders".

Also of this exciting racing action can be seen for just $10 admission for adults with kids 12 and under admitted Free of Charge.

Gates will open at 5:30 with racing at 8:05.
