March 16, 2008 (Kenly, NC) The Tech Racing
team opened up their 2008 season at Southern National Raceway Park in
Kenly, NC. The visit marked the first trip to Kenly for the team since
2004. After playing with the gear ratio on the Saturday practice sessions,
Mike Chambers qualified 18th of the 20 cars who timed in. Still unhappy
with the gear selection, the team lucked up when the rains came forcing
postponement of the race until Sunday. During the single practice round
allowed on Sunday, the team finally found the gear ratio they were looking
for. Chambers started the race in 17th, and was having a decent run moving
up through the field, when a pack of cars he was running with bunched up.
His nose was pushed in & the hood knocked up on the car. This caused an
aero-tight condition that Chambers fought throughout both of the races.
Coming home with two 13th place finishes, the team plans to go home and do
their homework before coming back.
